Ab slide is very much similar to the Ab wheel when the body mechanics while doing the roll is talked about.

Same kind of forward and backward rolling motion is used. The main difference is that these slides usually have springs inside them to help your rolling motion back up, so this is much better for beginning ab exercisers. Not all the ab slide models have the springs, but some do.

Basically the Ab Slide is a pretty simple piece of ab exercise equipment, you go in front of the ab slide on your knees, grasp it from the handles and roll forward until your stomach almost touches the floor and the you roll back up again. This motion is quite hard on your abs and this way I can with honest face say, like the ab wheel, Ab Slide is a very effective ab exercise machine. For the people who are in really bad shape and can't do about 20 sit-ups I wouldn't recommend this just yet, or you can do just partial motion and not get the best possible workout out of the Ab Slide is possible. Of course with time you will able to do the full motion so that your stomach nearly touches the ground. Off the two Ab Roller and Ab Slide, the Ab Slide is much more beginner friendly, you don't need to balance your upper body as much as you need with the Ab Roller, and if your version has the springs it makes the rolling up much easier.

Actually the Ab Slide and Ab Wheel aren't just abdominal exercising machines. They both exercise also your whole upper body as well as butt and back muscles, as you need to keep your body firm when you are doing the rolling motion, the effect on other muscles than abs isn't that much but still it gives a small workout on them.

The Ab Slide is a nice piece of Ab Exercising Equipment, some claim to have got six pack muscles with it. It is effective that is for sure and more beginner friendly than the Ab Wheel. If you have some ab muscles already, then I would suggest for you to look more in the Ab Wheels direction, but if you are tired of doing basic sit-ups and crunches Ab Slide will most definitely win them both in effectiveness.
